Building Ecology: First principles for a Sustainable Built Environment
Graham, P
2003
Blackwell Publishing, Oxford, UK
Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the way we make things
William McDonough and Michael Braungart
2002
North Point Press
This book proposes a new way of looking at products and design in terms of a perpetual value adding cycle. The title says it all - cradle to grave
is the old paradigm: waste equals food and everything should be designed to be recycled into higher and higher value elements, as opposed to
"downcycling" which is described as recycling in which the product deteriorates with each reuse eg paper, some plastics. McDonough began as an
architect and has done a number of green buildings and consultation for big polluting companies on how they can reduce their environmental impact.
